(More customer reviews)I have been eating this salt since I was a child, not this brand but Kala Namak. It is commonly served with fruit and added to lemonades and other North Indian drinks. It is ground volcanic mineral salt and has a STRONG pungent smell and taste. I will not recommend it to anyone because it is such an acquired taste but I LOVE it. I have never used it in cooking, so don't know how that works. And to the reviewer Gordino, the smell is not a result of humanity's influence but because of presence of Hydrogen Sulfide, which is naturally present in the volcanic lava.

Kala Namak (or Black Salt) comes from the Himalayan Mountains in India and has been used for centuries in Indian cuisine as cooking and finishing salt. It has very unusual aroma reminiscent of cooked eggs. When ground into the small crystals or powder, it actually changes color to pink. In addition to the supreme taste it also has some exceptional health benefits. In India black salt is recommended for people with high blood pressure and to people who are on low-salt diets, because it is lower in sodium and does not increase sodium content in the blood. It is also know for comforting intestinal gas and heartburn. It is believed to help with indigestion. (More customer reviews)I am gluten free and vegan AND I have a sweet tooth BUT I'm trying to avoid eating too much sugar. It's a dilemma! I like to have a few cookies with my coffee or tea and these fit the bill. They don't have a lot of sugar but they are still sweet enough to feel like you're having a treat. The label bills them as having fiber but they don't have as much as you would think. Still, I'm not eating them for fiber's sake but as a snack.
Another thing I do like about these is that they can be used to make a really nice gluten free cookie crust for pies. It's hard to find a gluten free cookie crust but I found griding these up in the processor, mixing them with some melted butter and baking in a pie pan sets up a great crust for key lime pie, etc. So I'm making the most of these little cookies!
I didn't give them 5 stars because they're a bit pricey but I would buy them again.

I actually prefer this mix to scrambled eggs and it is better that the "do it yourself" tofu scrambles that I have made on my own. To make it even better, add in some tomatoes and onions and serve it with oven fries and you won't miss eggs again.

Erin Baker's Breakfast Cookie Chocolate Chunk, Vegan, 3-Ounce Individually Wrapped Cookies (Pack of 12) Review

(More customer reviews)I was so excited to get these because I thought it would be a great healthy snack to keep at my desk. I ordered these and other flavor (double chocolate chunk) and after eating a couple of each, noticed that one of the cookies had bluish green mold on it. I assumed it was a bad one in the batch. I saw on the manufacturer's website that these should be stored in the freezer since the shelf life is 90 days (due to natural ingredients and no preservatives). I immediately put them in the freezer after getting them 3 weeks earlier. The next 4 cookies I opened had that same mold on it and after I examine the rest, I found that they all were moldy. Apparently Amazon had them stored in their warehouse for a while before I rec'd them. Since there were no dates stamped on the cookies, I have no idea how long they sat in the warehouse before I got them.
I will not be ordering these again and will be wary of ordering other food products from Amazon.com. They were great about refunding my money and I will continue to purchase from amazon, just not short shelf life food items.

(More customer reviews)I have been vegan for about two years. i love desserts and suffice it to say the selection of vegan offerings leaves much to be desired. These cookies are moist and chewy and not too sweet. Not too salty either as I have come across that. Not too oily. Vegan cookies can be too sweet and either too dry or too oily. There is a delicious coconut undertaste - the chocolate fools you into thinking it is milk. I like chocolate but most vegan chocolate is very dark or has a nasty rice dream aftertaste. If I were not vegan I would eat these - no crave these. My Whole Foods cannot keep this line in stock. Crazed sweet toothed vegans periodically raid the store and buy it out. Then we are back to boring fig newtons and dark chocolate bars (mmmmmm). Anyway - try it. I plan to buy from amazon now since I cant go too many weeks without a fix.. cheers

Non vegans like them. I am a big fan of crumbly peanut butter cookies and these fit the bill. They are not dry nor are they bland like some vegan desserts. I recommended them to another non-vegan friend who happily agreed with me.

-"Vegan!? There's no way!"
-"But these taste good!"
-"Huh? What's a vee-gun? Can I have another cookie?"
-"Vegans are stupid. Now give me another cookie."
No other vegan cookie can even touch Uncle Eddie's. Buy them for your family and rejoice in the organic ingredients, the good-for-the-planet company and the no-cholesterol health benefits. You don't even have to tell them about the vegan thing if you don't want to.

(Lack of preservatives make these cookies, like many organic products, go stale a bit more quickly than chemically preserved cookies. Enjoy within a week or so after purchase is my tip.)

(More customer reviews)I've been buying gluten free food for awhile now, and these are by far the WORST cookies! There are many cookies, like Pamela's, that make you forget that they're GF. These don't. These are horrible! They don't taste even remotely like chocolate chip cookies.
If you want some sort of tutti-fruiti cookie with a funky aftertaste, then go ahead and buy these. Otherwise, definitely skip them!
*** UPDATE *** I looked at the box again, and the box has an expiration date of "10Jul18". I bought them January 12, 2011. Obviously EXPIRED. NASTY!

(More customer reviews)I love this coffee cake mix. Because I don't have a problem with dairy, I use good old-fashioned butter in place of the dairy free stuff. I also make mine in cupcake tins...one pack makes 12 muffins. I then wrap each one in saran wrap, put them all in a freezer bag and pop them in the freezer. Each morning, I put one in the microwave for 30 seconds and have it for breakfast. Delicious and portion controlled!

These are not only the least amount of calories that I've seen for a vegan cookie of this size, but I found that these double chocolate chip cookies were better than the non-vegan ones I've had in the past! They are so, so, so good. Whoever said that you need dairy and eggs in chocolate? I have my omnivore friends and family try these cookies to show them that I am FAR from deprived! Two thumbs up and highly recommended from this vegan chocoholic.
