(More customer reviews)I was so excited to have found the Confetti Angel Food Cake Mix here at Amazon as they don't sell it in the stores here --Until I discovered that included in the list of ingredients is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (just like in most shampoo)! I guess it's the 'fluffing agent.' On the plain white Angel Food Cake Mix, they call it 'Sodium Lauryl Flavor.' If you aren't familiar with this additive, you might want to Google 'Sodium Lauryl Sulfate' before deciding if you would really want to eat this or not...

It's just the just right amount of chocolate taste, not overwhelmingly rich. And it's firm, like I said, not lighter than air. It tastes as feels like a homemade cake. I was so impressed, I made a point to keep the box and do a review so I'd remember which mix I made last time and buy it again.

It is easy to add other ingredients such as poppy seeds or dried fruit to make flavored pound cakes. This mix is not overly sweet and cakes come out a bit dryer than some. All in all, it makes a pretty decent basic cake

(More customer reviews)We're picky about our gluten-free baked goods, especially since we can't use eggs. This mix was very successful without eggs, baked as muffins. The flavor is like a sweet cornbread, but lighter in texture. And it's wonderful with a quick lemon glaze ...and better yet with fresh berries. I suspect it will make an excellent strawberry shortcake, too.
Note: I used a variety of egg replacer for 2 eggs, plus a bit extra Ener-G egg replacer, used milk instead of water, tossed in 2 Tb nonfat dry milk for extra yum/protein. Baked at suggested temperature, 25 minutes.

I made this with chopped dried fruit and a touch of brandy for a holidau coffee cake and have added cinnamon,cardamom, and cloves to the mix for a spice cake that is a huge hit. The traditional rolled cookie variation is great tasting and holds up well in construction projects such as ginger bread houses,trains and ginger people. The soft cookie variation get raves, These usually disappear as soon as they are barely cool enough to eat. These mixes also keep well in the pantry.

(More customer reviews)While not the same as a homemade carrot cake, this mix will make an acceptable substitute. It reminded us of carrot cake and a bit like a spice cake. Mildly spiced with an acceptable taste. The box cake did not taste quite as moist as a homemade carrot cake but it was good.
I frosted the box carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and most everyone enjoyed eating it.
Recommend.

It is by far my personal favorite and my family's too. In fact, I just used these mixes to make my son's wedding cake! Their other flavors of "vanilla mixes" like french vanilla are excellent too, but this is THE best! Unfortunately, none of the stores in my area carry it, so I was thrilled to find that I could order it through amazon.com! This came out perfect--it is still really moist after storing it in the fridge for a few days. You do have to add a stick of butter so it's not good for the health-conscious, but if you want a really moist, sweet cake in a basic yellow cake recipe, this is definitely it! Will definitely use it again!

(More customer reviews)This is my favorite cake mix to use! Sometimes I follow the directions on the back, but more often this is what I'll add to the cake mix: 1 cup water, 1 cup mayonnaise, 3 large eggs, and 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract. It makes it dark and moist, and people NEVER suspect I started with a cake mix. Even my mother-in-law wanted to know how I got my cake so dark, and she uses cake mixes too (but another, cheaper, brand).
Be sure not to mix/beat the batter for too long, as this will make the cake come out with a "tough" texture, instead of the tender crumb you get when you mix it just enough to blend the ingredients. Don't worry about a few little balls of powdered mix in your batter, they will bake out. If you're really worried about those little balls of powdered mix in your batter, run the cake mix (and *just* the cake mix, no other ingredients!) through a fine wire sieve, or a flour sifter. This will break up those little clumps.
If you love chocolate, this is the cake mix to buy.

(More customer reviews)My absolute favorite is German Chocolate Cake but I've found it to be a mix that can often turn out dry. That is not what I want in a cake. My sister-in-law substituted chocolate cake mix last summer and that is our new tradition.
This mix is my family's favorite because it is just what it says... SUPER MOIST. The rich chocolate flavor compliments my Grandmother's recipe for homemade buttery, pecan and coconut frosting. Add a thin layer of warm frosting to the cake layers and let it soak in deep. Once the frosting is cooled, frost as usual. I make a three layer cake in a heart shaped pan then display it in a glass domed cake plate. This cake is warm, soft and delicious served the same day and even more flavorful the next day.
The kids love the cake mix when you add chocolate chips and make cupcakes. Vanilla frosting and sprinkles top off their favorite.
More recently I used it to make a chocolate gooey butter cake. Made the recipe as written but substituted chocolate cake mix for the yellow cake mix the recipe called for and added mini semi-sweet chocolate chips to the cream cheese topping. Rich and decadent. Yum.

I have found the following additions to the mix, make this cake EXCEPTIONAL. 1/4-1/3 cup ground almonds/walnuts/mixed; 3-4 tablespoons of good quality Coco Mix; 1-2 extra tablespoons of water; and turn down the oven temperature to 335 F. after 15 minutes and extend the bake time 10 minutes [40 total min.]. The basic mix has great potential for nut and berry combinations that are compatible with rich chocolate. Ice with Coco-whipped cream, refrigerate.
