(More customer reviews)I have been eating this salt since I was a child, not this brand but Kala Namak. It is commonly served with fruit and added to lemonades and other North Indian drinks. It is ground volcanic mineral salt and has a STRONG pungent smell and taste. I will not recommend it to anyone because it is such an acquired taste but I LOVE it. I have never used it in cooking, so don't know how that works. And to the reviewer Gordino, the smell is not a result of humanity's influence but because of presence of Hydrogen Sulfide, which is naturally present in the volcanic lava.

Kala Namak (or Black Salt) comes from the Himalayan Mountains in India and has been used for centuries in Indian cuisine as cooking and finishing salt. It has very unusual aroma reminiscent of cooked eggs. When ground into the small crystals or powder, it actually changes color to pink. In addition to the supreme taste it also has some exceptional health benefits. In India black salt is recommended for people with high blood pressure and to people who are on low-salt diets, because it is lower in sodium and does not increase sodium content in the blood. It is also know for comforting intestinal gas and heartburn. It is believed to help with indigestion. It is also considered a cooling spice in ayurvedic medicine which uses this salt as a digestive.Great on: yogurt and cheeseExceptional on summer favorites such as cucumbers, watermelon and mangoes.

J&D's Bacon Salt Big Pig Sampler 3-pack contains Original Bacon Salt, hickory Bacon salt and Peppered Bacon Salt. The Original Bacon Salt is Best on eggs, green vegetables, salads, sandwiches. The Hickory Bacon Salt is smokey than Original, but not in that fake liquid smokey type of way. This is best on potatoes, steaks, tomato soups, salmon, cream cheese dips. The peppered Bacon Salt is best on burgers, on shellfish, in bloody mary's, or in your clam chowder.

(More customer reviews)This bacon-flavored salt can be used on pretty much anything to give it a little extra (non-fat, probably non-pork) flavor. I've even used it to season other meats (hamburgers, chicken), which is probably a little strange and just one of the things that gives Americans a bad name in the rest of the world :)
Good stuff, albeit a tad pricey...but then again, a shaker of this size will probably last the average user a year or two (and if it doesn't, you've got bigger problems than reading reviews of what flavor of salt to buy on Amazon).

BaconSalt has leapt way beyond merely "palatable," however, and brought new seasoning products to market that can make salt-hungry, bacon-deprived deprived folk like us absolutely giggle with delight. When we first learned about BaconSalt, we bought one of each flavor (the basics on Amazon, some special ones on the company website), plus extras for gifts. We sent a half-price gift package to loved ones at an APO address (as of this writing, the company actually gives military buyers/recipients a 50% discount -- imagine that!). We have no interest in the company, BTW ... we're just happy consumers grateful to find that we needn't abandon the savory flavors of bacon in the pursuit of good health.

(More customer reviews)Bottom line: If you like bacon (and let's be honest, who doesn't?), you'll love this product. It's two of John Candy's favorite things wrapped into one - bacon and salt.
I am one for combining things that make sense. Shampoo and conditioner. Peanut butter and jelly. Paris Hilton and an electric chair. Bacon and...well, anything. I can put bacon with any dish and it'll taste great. Eggs, salads, steaks, macaroni, etc. Now, I just put a little of this Bacon Salt on whatever I'm eating, and it tastes like a million bucks.
I'm not one to look at the back of the bottle, so you'll have to go elsewhere for the health exploits of the product (however, as far as I know, it's low on sodium). For the taste, however - you can't go wrong, as long as you like BACON.

(More customer reviews)Like so many others, we love bacon but must avoid it for health reasons. So when we heard of this product -- and its companion spread, Baconnaise -- we ordered every flavor made, for ourselves and for gifts to family and friends, from Amazon and from the company website.
We weren't disappointed. Every flavor is authentically, satisfyingly "bacony". And despite the name, it's not at all salty; low-sodium versions are available, which means bacon lovers (even vegetarians) can satisfy their yearnings without the health risks associated with heavy animal fats.
BTW, one thing we especially appreciate about Bacon Salt's makers (two high-tech guys who, over a meal, confessed that they'd always wished everything could taste like bacon, then funded their venture with $10K won on "America's Funniest Home Videos") is their "Operation Bacon Salt," in which orders shipped from the company to APO addresses sell for half-price. It's refreshing to find a firm that will not only ship to APO addresses (not all do), but will actually do something generous for our men and women who serve in the military. It's a cool (and legal) way, too, to get that lovely, bacony flavor to military personnel who serve in countries where bacon and other pork products are not permitted.
Try all the flavors. And try the yummy Baconnaise, too; it comes in regular and "lite" versions, and lets you make a low-calorie, low-sodium, zero cholesterol BLT that will just about make any bacon-lover's day. It's also wonderful on a baked potato.
We have no commercial interest in the company, and do (and will continue to do) most of our shopping on Amazon. We're just big fans of Bacon Salt products, happy to see their products available here.
