I was looking for a healthy treat without additives for my epileptic dog (additives can be a seizure trigger) and liver biscotti filled the bill. The ingredients are top-quality. The bite-size bits are perfect for training and don't muck up your pockets. The bite-size portions also make it possible to give rewards without adding pounds, which is a problem with other treats. And for dogs with wheat and other sensitivities, there is an anti-allergenic recipe. Enthusiastically recommended!

(More customer reviews)First, you will note that I have given Blue Buffalo's "Health Bars with Bacon, Egg and Cheese Treats for Dogs" a five star rating - but that really wasn't my idea - rather that is the rating given to them by the Three Muske-Terriers: a male Westie, a male Cesky and, the Empress-of-All-She-Surveys, a female Scotty. To be honest, the Cesky and Her Highness will eat just about anything - but the Westie is a true gourmet. If a treat passes the "Asta test," you know its got to be tasty - and these treats get five barks from Asta. But they are not just tasty, they're also good for your furry buddy, in moderation of course....
Blue Buffalo's treats do NOT include wheat, corn or soy, (many dogs, including Her Highness, are allergic to these grains). Instead the ingredients include oatmeal, ground barley, ground whole oats, rye and flaxseed, along with chicken meal, bacon, dried eggs, cheese and carrots. The ingredients are all natural - although they are NOT organic, (if you are interested in organic treats, I suggest that you try those made by Robbie Dawg or Wagatha).
The treats are baked for a nice crunch. They are rectangular - about an inch by an inch and a half, and maybe a quarter of an inch thick. They break in half easily, if you want to reduce the portion size.
As for price, Blue Buffalo treats are in the same price range as treats made by other high-end and premium dog food manufacturers. They are not cheap, but I think their quality is worth the cost - and your dog probably will think so too.

They look and taste like bacon.
Yogi is a little guy with a very hearty appetite and doesn't believe in skipping breakfast. Along with this snack, he gets his regular food.
My kitties are a little envious about this breakfast thing and would also like a little bacon treat, so they can join in at the "family table".

(More customer reviews)Charlee Bears are small and low calorie, so you can use them en masse for training. We use them both for standard training (sit, stay, drop it, leave it) and behavioral training (no bark). They're not stinky or messy, so you can put them in your pocket, purse, or car without worry. We keep a small bag in the car for travel to reinforce when our puppy doesn't bark at people walking by, one by the door to reinforce when she goes to the bathroom outside, and a bunch of treats in a treat bag for travel.
The one downside to these is that because they're not as stinky, it can be harder to use them to get your dog's attention if he or she is distracted, like at the dog park or if you have a bunch of visitors. Our trick to get around this is that we put some stinky treats in the treat bag with these, and they'll take on some of the scent (We use Pro-Treat Beef Liver, Freeze Dried Dog Treats, 21 Ounce).
Our dog loves all flavors.

(More customer reviews)Different types of treats have different advantages. Bits of raw or cooked meat are great as a "high value" reward during initial training or for training under distraction. A softer, manufactured treat is good for rapid and involved work, when you don't want chewing to slow down the action. And a dry, crunchy treat like these biscotti provide a wonderful, practical, general-purpose solution. They don't need special storage and they don't go bad. They are low-cal. They are clean to handle. They are easy to deal with during the winter, when wearing gloves.
Regarding the user photo posted, of fractured bits of biscotti, I'd say that based on my experience that problem was likely one of poor luck with the shipping. As with any sort of dry grain food, some does end up damaged, much as is the case with breakfast cereal. Each bag does end up with some crumbs at the bottom, even in the best case. Personally, I've never felt ripped off by this, as the vast majority of the treats have been in good shape. And the crumbs can be added to the dog's food, or mixed in with peanut butter for a treat toy, to add a little interest.

After a few days our shipment of Charlee Bear Cheese/Egg treats arrived and she loved them right off. I love them too for being made in USA and not full of chemicals or dyes. Now she will eat those other treats. We ended up with so many treats that I repackaged some of them and stashed them in the freezer for future use.
